Council minutes January 12, 2017

Administrative Council Meeting – January 12, 2017

 Present: Pat Gorham, Naomi Schultz, Ruth Smith, Dick Smith, Janell Anderson, Jan Anderson, Robin Priebe, Edna Cole and Pastor Deb Schaffran.

Meeting called to order by Chairman, Robin at 6:30 p.m.  Minutes of December 8, 2016 meeting reviewed and upon motion by Pat/Dick carried and approved.  Pastor Deb led prayer.

Financial:  Jan presented Financial Secretary’s report and upon motion by Ruth/Janell it was approved.  Treasurer’s report/Janell noting apportionments paid in full for 4th year which cancelled past due amounts.  2017 budget presented showing income broken down into pledged/unpledged approved for presentation to Charge Conference. Upon motion by Pat/Naomi Treasurer’s reports carried and approved.

 Pastor:  Pastor Deb reported on Mora/Ogilvie UMC responsibility for organizing March 3 local World Day of Prayer service.  Ruth will check with Sharon for history and plan to present at February Council meeting.  Discussion on removing clutter/reorganizing storage to present best appearance.  Christian Ed committee volunteered to take this on for Education wing.  Enjoying affiliation with KCMA – setting up voucher program with One More Time for fulfilling community needs, will train for jail chaplain duties, group will work together for Forgiven concert scheduled for July 16.  First baptism scheduled for Jan. 22, organizing Confirmation classes utilizing Mora Release Time, working with several people requesting membership.

Other:  Janell presented need to appoint Lay Person to attend Conference  in June.  Discussion on adding an item to monthly agenda as ‘Old Business’ to assure items are not lost.  Secretary will research and update council members.

Trustees:  Parsonage Annual review will be completed soon.

Christian Education:  Leaders are in place through February for Church School.  Safe Sanctuary Training will be scheduled spring and fall for anyone working with children.  Seeking a male co-teacher for Confirmation.  Planning to add focus on adult education with a Sunday School component/ Bible Study and are exploring a prayer walk/book study on Saturday mornings.  Committee asked for prayers for this endeavor.  Bibles will be given to 3rd graders, youth group going well on Wednesdays, Valentine’s dinner set for February 18.

SPPR:  Paid personnel (other than pastor and pianist/organist) were budgeted for a 2% salary increase.

 Worship:  Plans for Ash Wednesday/Easter completed.  Music will be done on weekly schedule, Gideon’s on February 19, discussion on communion, plan to highlight camping scholarship opportunities.

 WICS:  Plans in place for Jigsaw Puzzle Contest on January 29, will be working on World Day of Prayer plans.

Missions:  Mission monies were dispersed.

Membership:  Committee updating records for annual reports and presenting full report at February meeting.  Meeting to be scheduled with Pastor Deb to review procedures and get her input on any assistance needed.
