Council minutes November 14, 2019

APPROVED MINUTES
November 14, 2019 Church Council meeting.

Pastor Deb called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm. and Ben lead us in prayer.

Those in attendance were Pastor Deb, Phyllis, Valerie, Jan, Ben and Janell.

October minutes were reviewed and approved.

Pastor’s time:  Deb said that the 2 weeks spent in Greece and Turkey was incredibly educational. Our Bishop had two lectures.  Pastor is attending Leadership Academy, starting the 3rd year of a 3 year program.  The upcoming book study will not be an Advent study but a study of an Adam Hamilton book titled Making Sense of the Bible, this will be a 6 week study. More families/singles/groups are still needed for lighting of the Advent wreath. Thanksgiving Eve Service will be at the Mora UM Church the 27th at 7:00. Father Derrick will be delivering the sermon. Colleen will be updating the directory soon, please submit any phone, address or name changes to the office.

Ben’s time:  Wednesday up and running, there are 6 rotating youth coming in and out with an average attendance of 2.  On the past Saturday, 7 kids attended the Saturday event. The next one is the 16th.  This youth event will be held the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. Pastor asked Ben what his first impression of the building when he came in. the main thing was that the narthex was dark and small. The pews are close together and there is a buzz in the sound system. The TV is too small for the area.

Finance:  Financial Secretary and Treasurer reports were approved as presented. 10% of general fund money will be given to apportionments. The new pledge brochure was to sent out the 24th of November will be commitment Sunday. Pastor Deb will have a money talk on the 16th and the 24t. The PEF Committee met November 7th and the disbursement of the PEF interest will be to the Mora Food Shelf and the Food For Friends, KCMA and UMCOR

Trustees: Steve checked to be sure the new property insurance was paid.  There is need to start an aesthetics committee. Steve will continue on Trustees.

Christian Education: There is need for additional adult volunteers for the Saturday K-6 activity days.

Worship:  December is pretty well planned.  Input for the new bulletin format is to please include large print hymns and readings.  January 3rd the 3rd grade and 3 year old bibles will be given out.  Ben will arrange for nursery providers during the worship service.

Mission: The Alternative gift information will be in the newsletter. Janell will get some information out in the Narthex area in December.

Motion was made to adjourn at 7:25 pm, all approved.

Next meeting Thursday December 12th.
