Council Minutes, Oct. 8, 2020

APPROVED MINUTES – October 8, 2020 Church Council meeting.

Valerie called the meeting to order at 6:32 pm. Pastor opened with a meditation reading taken from “God’s Daily Promises for Leaders,” then a prayer.

Those in attendance meeting were Pastor Deb, Steve Sigstad, Don Ripperton, Jan Anderson, Peggy Smith, Phyllis, Alan, Valerie, Mike, Ruth, Carmel , Bob and Janell Anderson.

Pastor’s Time: Pastor will be out of town from the afternoon of October 11 through the 20th. The Pastor from Milaca will be on call and any connection will be made through Valerie.

The Secretary’s report was approved M/S/C Bob/Steve

Financial Secretary’s report was approved M/S/C Janell/Bob   The trend of giving has been going down since January

Treasurer’s report were approved as presented M/S/C, Steve/Phyllis

Finance Committee: Phyllis feels at a loss on what to do this year. She will call a meeting of the finance committee before the November larger group meeting to brain storm.  Possibly using the term estimate of giving rather than pledge.

Trustees: Steve reported that the work day went well on the 19th of September. Painting was done, a pew was removed and replaces with the help of some MHS football players.  Pictures were hung; the library unit was moved and split up to be used in the choir room and Pastor’s office. It was a good day, with good food – thank you Ruth. New patio doors are put on hold. Bathroom doors will have new handles that will lock and will say vacant or in use, so only one person can be in the room at a time.

SPPRC:  They met a couple times in September. Alan will chair the committee. They talked about the youth leader position, and 4 applications were received.  Two of them were called, one was not interested after the call the other at this time still is. The janitorial position was filled by Don Ripperton, he was hired on the 29th. The DS is going to meet with SPPRC November 15th. Before this meeting evaluation forms need to be filled out. They plan to meet again before the meeting with the DS, hopefully the end of October.

Christian Education:  Planning for youth continues and thoughts of what a children’s event might look like. Confirmation is underway. Also thinking of using Zoom or an in person adult study.

Worship: Has met to determine how and to decide when we reopen for indoor worship. The decision was that we would not be in church for Christmas. They will meet again the beginning of December to see if opening in January is possible. Many items were discussed; cleaning and sanitation supply needs and so on.

Technology: we received a CARES grant for Technology in the amount of $3000.00.  A tour was taken to see what Grace Lutheran has for there videoing.  It seems to work well and we want to try something like that. The new internet provider will allow us to live stream when we come back. There will be a need for some lighting changes and mics over the congregation
