Minutes of Mora United Methodist Church Administrative Council             September 14, 2017

Present: Janice Anderson, Janell Anderson, Carmel Gorham, Robin Priebe, Pastor Deb Schaffran, Ruth Smith

Pastor Deb opened the meeting with a reflection on the work of the church, with talents of so many.

Robin opened the business meeting.  Minutes of the July meeting were approved with the correction of Caramel to Carmel, M-Robin, S-Janell

Jan gave the financial secretary report. Approved, M-Janell, S-Carmel

Janell gave the treasurer report.  Approved, M- Ruth, S-Jan

Pastor Deb went over plans for the autumn pledge drive, noting November 19 as pledge Sunday.

Carmel gave the Christian Ed report.  A Fall Carnival Trunk and Treat is being planned for October 8, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Games, a maze, and food stand will be part of this, along with treats distributed from the trunks of congregation members.

Youth group had boundary waters awards night at their last meeting.  They will set up the fall rummage sale Oct. 27, and hold the sale Saturday, October 28.  Youth will meet on Wednesday nights beginning Oct. 4.  Jesus After School begins October 11.

Confirmation classes resumed Sept. 13 during the release time from public school.  Pastor Deb hosts that in her home, with the students helping prepare a meal and studying what church is about and growing in faith.

Pastor Deb reported the C.E. committee has four new members.  Bob Hanson has agreed to chair.

Missions Committee report by Janell, trip to “Feed My Starving Children” site on October 14.  Carpool from church leaving at 3 p.m.  Shift is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Janell has reserved 25 spots.

Pastor Deb reported on Nominations and Leadership, which is working to secure a lay leader.  A training meeting was held Monday with 18 attending, nine of whom are new members.  More training will be offered in the future to assist with ideas and guidelines.

WICS will meet Sept. 20.  Have switched the date for Chili Supper from September to October 26.

Pastor Deb received a call from Ardell Graner, our missionary in the Dominican Republic.  The Graners are stateside and have the date Oct.12 available to be here.  Council made plans to have a potluck dinner at 5:00 and urging all members to come and visit and hear their progress in this impoverished country.  Worship Committee rescheduled to meet on Tuesday, at 5:00 using the West entrance.  Finance and Council will hold meetings at 6:45 and 7:15 on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Mention was made that Sunday sermons are available on the Mora UMC website.  Go to Inspiration, then click on Sermon.  Our winter birds can still hear the weekly message on their computer or smartphone.

Plans for new Church Directory and retention of financial records were tabled for the next meeting.

Permanent Endowment needs to meet in November to determine recipients of annual interest for timely distribution.

Janell made the motion to adjourn, seconded by Carmel.  Approved.
