Dear Friends in Christ:
May…it’s finally here! I believe warm weather is going to bless us more and more now and summer will soon be here! It’s a busy time in our church also. On Sunday, May 18, our high school graduates will be honored and our prayer for them is that God will bless their futures with His guidance and grace. May is also the month for Memorial Day, a day to remember those who have died serving their country in our military to defend the freedoms we enjoy here in America.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, American poet and educator from the 1800’s said this about those who have given their lives for their country: They are dead; but they live in each Patriot’s breast, and their names are engraven on honor’s bright crest.” Memorial Day, which was originally called Declaration Day was intended to be a day of remembrance for those who have died in our country’s service. Being a veteran myself,
Memorial Day is of special significance to me. On this day, I think of the men and women who have given their lives in service to our nation, so that we may enjoy the freedoms we possess today. Sacrifice is the greatest and noblest act that a human being can make. This month, as you celebrate Memorial Day, as you get out the grill and barbeque your food with family and friends…take a few moments and give a prayer of thanks for those who have died to make our country free. Think also of another sacrifice that was made on a cross over 2000 years ago. Jesus, God’s Son was crucified and judged for our sin and now God offers forgiveness and eternal life for anyone who believes in Jesus as His Savior. Just as our fallen veterans gave their lives for our country’s freedoms, Jesus gave His life so we can have have freedom from the penalty and power of sin.
Our churches continue to move forward, bringing Christ to our communities. Have you thought about what you can do to help in the ministry of our churches? Please pray about what the Lord would have you do in ministry of Christ’s love in and outside our church. I also am going to be starting a membership class soon. If you would like to commit to being a member, please let Colleen in our church office know. Be watching for details! Keep coming to church, keep serving the Lord, keep loving each other! God bless you richly in the days that are ahead. Jesus is Lord! Amen!
Peace in Christ,
Pastor Rob
