Give your heart and spirit a rest!

Think a Minute:
Have you ever read Psalm 37? I call it the TDCR Psalm. Yesterday in church we talked about how our culture has become so fast-paced, so burdened. No one knows how to take a spiritual retreat…to give their heart and spirit a REST. Let me quote Psalm 37:3-7.
3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light
And your judgment as the noonday.
7 Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him;
You will notice the three action verbs that come before the admonition to REST in the Lord. First is the word TRUST. This means in the Hebrew to have a “confident boldness”. God calls us to believe that He is sufficient and able to do anything. To trust is more than believe as we will see. The second word is the word, “DELIGHT”. This is a potter’s word. It means to allow yourself to be soft and pliable in the potter’s hand – like clay. God delights in us allowing Him to be absolutely surrendered to Him. The third word is the word, “COMMIT”. It means to believe, but to act upon what you believe. To put your money where your mouth is. To live out your faith in God. So there you have it! TRUST + DELIGHT + COMMIT = REST! Follow this formula of faith and you will find your burdens lifted and your heart lighter. God bless you this coming week!
