December 2019
What a November Rod and I have had. We rested after returning from our trip touring Greece and Turkey during which we studied the travels of the Apostle Paul. We met our new “grand-puppy” while enjoying an overnight with our kids. We celebrated our 41-wedding anniversary – hard to believe it has been 41 years, but neither of us would change a thing. I hit that age that includes Medicare, ouch! Other birthdays haven’t bothered me but this one stung. Here we are starting Advent.
This year Advent starts December 1st and is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas. Advent means ‘Coming’ in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. As Christians we use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas.
In your preparation for your Christmas celebration I recommend you read a chapter of the book of Luke each day starting December 1st. The first chapter starts with John the Baptist’s birth foretold. The book of Luke continues with the birth of Jesus, His ministry and ends with His ascension after his crucifixion and resurrection.
There are 24 chapters in the book of Luke so reading one a day ends on Christmas Eve. Reading this book is a wonderful way to prepare for His coming. I encourage you to spend time in meditation with the book of Luke.
Merry Christmas My Friends,
Pastor Deb
