A little over three years ago, I went on a missions trip to Haiti. Our team experienced adventure after adventure as we sought to bring Christ to everyone we could. We hiked up mountains to visit villages, took fishing boats to other islands and brought medicine and prayer to the sick. It was very moving, and I will never be the same from that trip. As I witnessed the extreme poverty, hunger and suffering in Haiti, it reminded me of when Jesus walked the earth, and went about seeking out the sick, the suffering and the outcasts of society to bring God’s love, forgiveness and compassion. It made me mindful that there are hurting people in the communities we live in who need a touch of mercy and grace brought into their lives. Christ’s compassion proved itself in action. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, made the blind to see and the deaf to hear, as well as even raising the dead. Why am I saying all of this?
Because now, you and I, believers in Jesus are His Hands, His feet and His heart. We are His body and He has called us be His presence in this world we live in. Let’s be faithful to our calling, let’s be obedient to God’s Word in First John, chapter 3, verses 17 and 18: “But whoever has the world’s goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.” Amen and Amen!
