Council Minutes – February 8, 2018

Present: Pastor Deb Schaffran, Robin Priebe, Heather Hanson, Bob Hanson, Janell Anderson, Jan Anderson, Valerie Prax, Al and Phyllis Roseberry, and Ruth Smith

Council chair, Robin Priebe, opened the meeting at 6:30pm.

Opening Prayer: Pastor Deb

A motion to approve the January council meeting minutes was made by Valerie Prax and seconded by Janell Anderson. Motion carries.

Pastor’s Report: 2018 brought 7 new members to our church. There were 6 baptisms performed including 1 adult, 3 children, and 2 babies. Attendance was up an average of 4 people per Sunday. Jesus After School has a solid 12 children attending weekly. We have 10 to 15 high school age children attend weekly. There are 9 attending confirmation.

Financial Committee: Jan Anderson presented the January financial report. Janell Anderson made a motion to approve the report. The motion was seconded by Bob Hanson. The January financial report was approved. Janell Anderson gave her financial report. A motion was made by Jan Anderson to approve this report. It was seconded by Phyllis Roseberry. Motion carries.

A motion was made by Janell Anderson, on behalf of the finance committee, to remove Dick Smith and add Phyllis Roseberry to the signature cards at Neighborhood National Bank and First Citizen’s Bank. The motion was seconded by Jan Anderson. Motion carries.

Trustees Committee: No representative present.

Worship Committee: The committee discussed how things are going with the sign up for communion servers. Things seem to be going well. We will put the name tags away for a while and then pull them out when we need to. Palm Sunday we will do a Palms and Pie service in the social hall instead of the regular service in the sanctuary. March 18th we will do a Camp Sunday to promote sign up for summer camps. Upcoming dates and times for Easter:

            Ash Wednesday 7pm at Ogilvie

            Good Friday service 7pm at Grace Lutheran

            Maundy Thursday 7pm at Mora

            Sonrise Service 7am

            Easter Breakfast by men’s group 7:45am

Education Committee: Bruce has agreed to take the confirmation pictures this year. Confirmation kids, Pastor Deb, and Bob Hanson will be attending the Confirmation Gathering 2018 March 2 and 3. Money for this is coming out of the youth fund. Lent Bible study begins February 18 and we will be doing potluck. March 24 we will be doing a children’s Easter party and including the community.

Upcoming Youth Group dates:

            Rummage Sale April 7th

            Canoe Race May 5th

            Boundary Waters June 15th or June 29th

                (leaving the 14th or 28th)

             August 10th (leaving the 9th)

            Car Wash and Bake Sale TBD

Missions: Distribution of funds:

            $145 to Heifer Int.

            $193 to UMCOR

            $70 to the Refuge

            $50 Crisis Pregnancy Center

            $80 to EMSC

            $105 to Mora High School food shelf

WICS: The puzzle contest went well. There were 10 tables. Milaca United Methodist Church won the contest and donated the prize money to go with the rest of the proceeds. They have decided they will be doing a puzzle contest as well. The Ham and Meatball dinner will be on April 21st from 4:30 to 6:30pm.

Men’s Group: No representative present.
