September 2018
As I write this I am two days away from taking a two-week vacation. At the end of my time away I come back to face the month of September, oh how the summer months flew by. But, it was a good summer, and it will be a wonderful fall. No matter the season some things don’t change and today I am thinking about those people that are seen as different, even loveless.
Matthew 25:40 (CEB)
“Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.”
It is human nature to stay within our own comfort zone and relate with those who are like us or who we want to be like. But Jesus tells us when we love those in need, we are serving and giving directly to Jesus. Who do you pass by in your neighborhoods, your halls, your classes that could use some love and help? Could you be a friend to those that are friendless? Could you buy a meal or groceries for those in need? Could you share a meal with someone you don’t know?
Whether you have an established group of friends or find yourself wishing you had more, the words of Matthew 25:40 apply to you.
Don’t overlook, or judge or exclude others. Reach out in friendship to someone you may normally ignore. There’s no better way to love Jesus than by loving someone that is easily overlooked or feeling lonely and loveless.
God, open our eyes around us to see those that need your love. Show us how we can serve you by serving others. Open our eyes Lord. Amen
